Memorials for the three Piedmont High School alumni who were killed in an early morning crash on Nov. 27, 2024 are in place around town as the families and community mark the 1-year anniversary of the deadly event.
Families and friends of the deceased college students — Soren Dixon, Jack Nelson, and Krysta Tsukahara — transformed the crash site on Hampton Avenue into a spot for reflection and remembrance this week.

In addition to the temporary remembrance at the crash site, more permanent memorials in the form of commemorative benches are now in place in local parks. Dixon and Nelson have a memorial bench in Crocker Park; Tsukahara’s bench is in Piedmont Park near the Tea Garden.
The Oakland Lacrosse Club created a scholarship in memory of Dixon and Nelson, who were both standout high school lacrosse players.
The Nelson and Tsukahara families both filed lawsuits in Alameda County Superior Court against Tesla earlier this fall. The suits claim that the Cybertruck’s flawed design, specifically the vehicle’s electronic door handles, led to the deaths of the students.
