State Sen. Scott Wiener on Wednesday announced he is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 race, gunning for the seat of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

“I’ve spent a huge piece of my life fighting for the people of San Francisco — taking on the powerful interests and winning,” said Wiener in an email sent out to supporters. “Now it’s time to take that fight to Washington, to stand up to Trump’s takeover and get government working again for the people — delivering housing, healthcare, and clean energy we can all afford.”

Wiener, D-San Francisco, served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors after being elected first in 2010 and then again in 2014. In 2016 he was elected to the state Senate and then was reelected again in 2020 and 2024.

Pelosi has not yet officially said whether she will run again in 2026.
