Homeowner says crime was caught on video

A dog-sitter was charged with residential burglary after their client said they caught the crime on camera. The resident of Hazel Lane reported the incident at 6:41 p.m. on October 7.

The resident said they had video footage of the dog-sitter taking clothing from the closet. A $200 t-shirt was reported missing.

Police contacted the suspect who admitted to taking the shirt, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. The suspected was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with residential burglary.


On October 9, police and fire were called to Moraga Avenue on a report of a woman starting a fire. The fire department determined there was no fire, according to Captain Monahan. However, a suspect was found on Mesa Avenue. She had outstanding warrants for grand and petty theft and was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail.


On October 8 at 12:14 a.m., the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system reported a hit at Ashmont Avenue and Clarendon Crescent in Piedmont. Police found the 2013 Infiniti G37 parked on St. James Drive around 12:38 a.m. According to the police log, the potential suspect took off on foot. An area check produced no suspect. The vehicle was towed.


At 3:16 a.m. on October 10, police were called to Prospect Road on a report of a stolen gray 2016 Lexus. Police met with the victim who said the vehicle had been parked in front of his residence since 12:45 p.m. on October 9. The victim said the vehicle was locked and secure.


A theft of two scooters and a helmet was reported at 10:45 a.m. on October 10. The property was in a driveway on Sharon Avenue. The loss is estimated at $536. Captain Monahan said follow up is in progress.
