PMS 8th grade girls volleyball on a roll

Piedmont Middle School 8th Grade Girls Volleyball continues its regular season win streak. Last year, they were undefeated in regular season 7th grade play. This season, the 8th grade team continued the streak, going 10-0 and have only two regular season games remaining. Their final home game is on Monday, October 6th at 4pm, in Morrison Gym against Willard which took a set against them earlier this season, then they hit the road and play Albany in its final regular season match.

Coached by Nikkola Yuen, the team is led by setters and defensive specialists Sarina Hill and Madelyn Huynh, with libero Siena Botero, outside hitters Sofie Bechtel and Juliana Pouzo, middles Charlotte Bailey, Campbell Miller, Jane Saunders, and Ava Ubaka, and finally, Simone Tornatore and Abby Walsh-Poole rounding out the defense.

The team has lost only 2 sets in 10 matches and have played against Head Royce (twice), Longfellow (twice), King (twice), Willard, Albany, Benicia, and Bentley. Their record advances the talented group of 8th graders to the East Bay Middle School tournament in Lafayette later this month to battle against other top teams.

Middle school girls volleyball is a fall sport with registration through the Piedmont Recreation Department. A development program is available, and teams are formed for 7th graders and 8th graders.
