Local teens kick off community impact at Oakland Roots Youth Soccer Night

Piedmont High School seniors from The Next Gen Soccer scored a big win for the community during the Oakland Roots Youth Soccer Night on October 7. The youth-led nonprofit, started by PHS students, is dedicated to keeping gently used soccer gear out of landfills and into the hands of kids who need it most.

The group spent the night cheering on the Roots and spreading awareness about their mission: making soccer more accessible and sustainable for our local community.

Following this event, The Next Gen Soccer is expanding its outreach this fall. Throughout November, the group is now offering free home pick-up service in Piedmont for families who want to donate used soccer gear.

Items accepted include:

  • Gently used pinnies
  • Cleats
  • Shin guards
  • Soccer balls
  • Portable pop-up soccer goals

“Our goal is simple, to give every kid the chance to play,” said Aidan and Nathan, at The Next Gen Soccer. “If your kids have outgrown their gear, we’ll make sure it finds a new home where it’s needed.”

Families interested in donating can schedule a pickup or learn more by visiting www.thenextgensoccer.org or emailing info@thenextgensoccer.org.
