Girls tennis downs Marin Catholic, Berkeley
Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team took a pair of matches, downing Marin Catholic, 5-2, and sweeping Berkeley, 7-0.
On September 30, the Highlanders beat the visiting Wildcats in a nonleague match. The teams split the singles matches. Piedmont’s Kate Jumper beat Natalie Martin at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Faith Chin defeated Ruby Pisaturo at No. 3 by the same scores.
Marin Catholic’s Christiane Zuber edged Ella Ruthven at No. 1, 7-6 (8), 6-4. Isa Quesada beat Ella Thomasson at No. 4, 6-1, 2-6, 10-4.
The Highlanders swept the doubles. Emma Chan and Samantha Huynh defeated Charlotte Fonkalsrud and Sofia Paletta at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1. Inara Mehta and Maddie Tran downed Lucia Tassone and Juliana Schaub at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. Chiara Silvio and Leela Sivakumar beat Caroline Hachman and Savannah Ferrari at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3.
On October 2, Piedmont took down West Alamada County Conference rivals Berkeley at home. Ruthven beat Eria Liao at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Jumper downed Vera Ertel at No. 2, 6-2, 7-5. Chin defeated Sophie Cranley at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0. Adrianna Kortum shutout Cambria Frozena at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.
Chan and Huynh beat Rowan Cranley and Ezra Abarbanel at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-0. Mehta and Tran defeated Maya Gearen and Sofia Bloom, 6-2, 7-5. Silvio and Sivakumar handled Adayah Jubb Miller and Charlotte Cranley at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.
