The Blotter | Man arrested for arson in Piedmont

Fire, set on Highland with “organic” material, extinguished quickly.

A man was arrested for arson on August 30 in Piedmont after lighting what was called “organic material” on fire. The fire was stomped out quickly before authorities arrived.

The suspect was described in the police log as a white male with a buzz cut and a medium length beard wearing all black. The fire was set somewhere on Highland Avenue, according to the police log, and the first report came in at 8:20 p.m. The suspect was detained after being seen in Piedmont Park and was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with arson.


At least two vehicles were burglarized on August 30 on Highland. A passerby reported two vehicles with smashed windows at 7:25 a.m. The police log said there were two more nearby in the same item. The log also reported two more vehicles with broken windows the same morning on Sheridan Avenue. Piedmont Police Commander Brandi Marin-Morris confirmed the first two on Highland and said the combined property damage was $1,000 with an additional $100 loss.


On August 31, a driver was arrested on DUI. The incident happened at 12:46 a.m. on Ronada Avenue. The driver requested a blood test, according to the police log. The vehicle was towed and the driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail and charged with DUI, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license according to Commander Marin-Moris.


On September 1, another driver was arrested for DUI. This happened at 2:56 a.m. on Grand Avenue. The vehicle was left legally parked and the driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail.


On September 3, a vehicle was reported stolen from Cambridge Way. The report said the white 2008 KIA was taken at 4:34 p.m. No other information was available, according to Commander Marin-Morris.


On August 31, a vehicle was recovered on Jean Street. A Lexus IS250 was reported stolen out of Oakland.
