Insights, stories and interviews about homeownership and living in the East Bay
From a Piedmont native, Emmy award winning television journalist turned Broker Associate at The Grubb Co., UCLA graduate, wife and mother of 3.

Tucked along bustling Grand Avenue in Oakland, Brother & Sisters Flower Shop is a true neighborhood gem.
Open online seven days a week and in person on Fridays through Sundays, it’s a place where beauty blooms—both in arrangements and community spirit. Meet the owner, Freya Prowe. She has been an artist and floral designer for more than 25 years. She opened the shop in 2016, and it’s been a family affair ever since.
Freya: “My oldest is in grad school and works in tech, she helps with my website. My middle child comes to work in the summer, and my youngest stops by after guitar lessons. It’s definitely a family business.”
The shop is perfectly in sync with the neighborhood’s energy.
Freya: “Weekends are vibrant and busy, lots of people are out. And with so many people working from home now, Fridays are lively too. Early in the week, when things are quieter, I focus on arrangements, have a driver deliver them, and take care of behind-the-scenes work,”
A longtime customer of the San Francisco Flower Market, Freya has shifted her sourcing in recent years.
Freya: “During COVID, I began working more with local farms. Now, 90% of my flowers come from farms within driving distance, places like Watsonville and Half Moon Bay. They bring me whatever’s freshest in season, and it’s wonderful.”
Brother & Sisters Flower Shop has also grown beyond flowers.
Freya: “We’ve always done custom work, events, and offered plants, but over time we’ve added more, unique vessels, bath and body products, and items from small makers,”
Whether you stop by for a bouquet, a gift, or a class, Brother & Sisters Flower Shop is ready to welcome you in.
