The Bay Area Air District reached an agreement with Argent Materials to resolve the company’s air quality violations at their construction material recycling facility in East Oakland facility, the agency announced.

Argent operates two facilities near one another in Oakland: one on Baldwin Street and one on San Leandro Street.

Under the agreement, Argent will install air quality monitors and track emissions in real time at both facilities for the next three years, according to the air district. Argent may face financial penalties if it doesn’t adhere to the agreement.

Earlier this year, the air district denied Argent’s permit applications to expand operations after it found that a proposed expansion would lead to toxic air emissions associated with health risks. The company has submitted a new permit to expand operations, which will be evaluated by the air district by the end of September, the agency said on Monday.

“This agreement upholds our commitment to protect public health and hold facilities accountable to the communities they operate in,” Philip Fine, executive officer of the Air District, said. “It secures important commitments that advance community oversight and transparency.”
