A driver was pulled over and arrested for suspected DUI in the early morning hours of June 25. Piedmont Police were at the intersection of Oakland and Grand avenues at 12:13 a.m. on the morning of June 25 when a black 2021 Model 3 Tesla sped past at an estimated 65 miles per hour in the 25 mph zone according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. He said police followed the vehicle and pulled it over on Grand.
Captain Monahan said the driver hit the curb with his front right tire while attempting to pull over. The officer reported the driver smelled of alcohol and had watery, bloodshot eyes. The driver said he was coming from Berkeley and refused a preliminary alcohol screening test, according to Captain Monahan. The driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he was booked for DUI.
A burglary was reported on June 22 at a residence on Oakland Avenue. A report came in at 12:09 p.m. that the burglary allegedly took place after 12 midnight according to the police log. Captain Monahan said the Department was “unable to confirm anything” and is still investigating.
On June 23, an Oakland Police Department helicopter followed a reportedly stolen vehicle into Piedmont at 1:33 p.m. at Pala and Mesa Avenues. The helicopter followed the vehicle out of the city near Moraga Avenue towards Montclair, according to the police log. No other information was available.
