NWS issues Tsunami Watch for SF Bay Area after 8.8 Russia quake

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake (updated from 8.7 by USGS) off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia early Wednesday morning (4:24 p.m. PST Tuesday afternoon) set off a series of tsunami warnings around the Pacific region, including a tsunami watch in the SF Bay Area.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami had been generated by the quake that could cause damage along the coastlines of all the Hawaiian islands.
