A man was arrested for DUI as well as assault and battery after police were called to the scene of a vehicle accident on May 20.
The report came in at 9:28 p.m. of a vehicle hitting parked cars near Holly Place and Manor Drive. According to Piedmont Police Department Support Services Coordinator Brandi Marin-Morris, the driver was found by police to be under the influence of alcohol. Another individual, believed to be a passenger in the vehicle, was found “badly injured and bleeding in the roadway at Manor Drive,” according to Coordinator Marin-Morris. She said the victim was
believed to have been assaulted by the driver of the vehicle. The police log reported a third person involved with no explanation.
The driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. They were charged with DUI, assault with a deadly weapon, battery and disobedience of terms of a court order.
A strong-arm robbery was reported on May 20 on Linda Avenue at 8:48 a.m. An unknown suspect broke the window on a 2022 Subaru Forrester and took a pink bag with miscellaneous items. The bag and items were later recovered in the area, according to Coordinator Marin-Morris.
On May 20, an unknown suspect drilled a hole in the gas tank of a 2008 Toyota Tacoma parked on Wildwood Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. The fuel leaked onto the roadway, according to Coordinator Marin-Morris. The suspect fled the area.
On May 18, Piedmont Police came upon a person sleeping in a parked silver 2010 Chevrolet Malibu on Hillside Avenue at 4:56 a.m. The vehicle had no license plates and had been reported stolen. Police arrested the individual and took them to Santa Rita Jail, charging them with driving or taking a vehicle without consent, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of personal identifying information, receiving stolen property and mail fraud.
On May 17, a Cybertruck without license plates was pulled over on Grand Avenue at approximately 2:43 a.m. A 34-year old male from Hayward was determined to be under the influence and arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail for DUI.
On May 17, a report came in of a black Acura MDX speeding in the area of Oak Road and Park Lane according to the police log. The report said someone in the vehicle was “gesturing a gun” with their hands. Coordinator Marin-Morris said there was no further information and police were not able to locate the vehicle or the driver.
On May 19, an employee reportedly stole $650 from the cash register at ACE Hardware on Grand. The victim declined to prosecute.
On May 21 at 9:43 p.m., a vehicle collision on Rose Avenue was reported. Police suspected DUI and the driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail and charged. The next day, a report came in that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Piedmont. Charges for vehicle theft were added.
