Boys golf team continues to grow
Derek Lee, Charlie Wright and Julien Porter all qualified for the North Coast Section Division 2 tournament, concluding another strong season for the Piedmont High School boys golf team.
Lee shot an 80 at the par-72 Foxtail North Golf Club on May 12, missing out on qualifying for the NCS Division 1 tournament by just one shot. The top 18 finishers at the Division 2 tournament qualify for the Division 1 tournament.
Wright shot a 94 and Porter shot a 107.
College Prep’s Will Chang won the tournament with a 69. Justin-Siena-Napa won the team title with a 307.
At the West Alameda County Conference championships on May 12 at Tilden Park Golf Course, Piedmont shot a 510 to finish in fourth place as a team. Porter shot a 76 on the par-70 course and finished fifth. Lee shot a 79 to tie for eighth and Wright shot an 84 to tie for 20th.

River Bloemker shot an 86 to tie for 23rd. Jackson Vankleeck shot a 90 for 27th place and Henry Pfister shot a 95 to tie for 34th. The top five individual scores count towards the team total.
Berkeley won the team championship with a 390, edging Bishop O’Dowd (391). Alameda’s Kailer Stone took the individual title with a 62.
Porter and Lee were named to the all-WACC team.
The Highlanders finished the season 6-8 in WACC play, good for fifth place.
