Baseball concludes season with O’Dowd series

Piedmont High School’s baseball team heads into the final series of the regular season with a 14-7 record after splitting two games with Berkeley.

The Highlanders defeated the visiting Yellowjackets on April 30, 4-2. Piedmont had to rally for the win, trailing 2-0 before scoring one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Jordan Vo hit a two-run single to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth. Earlier in the inning, Will Parker singled in a run to tie the score.

Vo scored on an error in the fifth inning.

William Ferreira got the win, going the first six innings while allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Diego Delventhal got the save, allowing one hit in one inning with two strikeouts.

Sasha Spahr took the loss, going five-plus innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts.

Seddy Henderson hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Berkeley the lead.

Markos Lagios went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Highlanders. Parker was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Vo was also 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Chase Worthington was 2-for-4 for the Yellowjackets.

The rematch was no match as Berkeley won 10-1 at home on May 2. Isaiah Mays went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored for the Yellowjackets. Akanni Owodunni went 2-for-3 including a home run with four RBI and two runs scored. Worthington was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Enrique Sotelo was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Henderson hit another home run, this one a solo shot.

Quinton Hill went six innings, allowing an unearned run on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Parker was 2-for-4 for Piedmont with a run scored. Brandon Dicke had the RBI.

Piedmont concludes the regular season with a home-and-home series against Bishop O’Dowd. The opener was scheduled for May 6 at Bishop O’Dowd with the Dragons coming to Piedmont on May 8.
