A man was arrested in Piedmont on March 30 when he was found in a vehicle that had been reported stolen the day before out of Oakland.
Police came upon a white 2011 Kia Optima parked on Fairmount Avenue at 6:50 a.m. One person was observed in the driver’s seat, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. He said the officer observed that the driver’s side door lock had been tampered with.
A records check showed the vehicle had been reported stolen. Police detained the occupant and Captain Monahan said a search produced a glass pipe. The individual was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and was booked for possession of the stolen vehicle and paraphernalia.
On April 1, an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) hit on a stolen license plate came in at 3:45 p.m. The plate was on a white Ford van and had been reported stolen out of San Francisco, according to Captain Monahan.
A traffic stop was attempted, however, according to Captain Monahan, the vehicle yielded but then took off “at a high rate of speed in a school zone.” The vehicle was later located unoccupied near Beacon Street and Boden Way. A records check showed the van had been reported stolen out of Oakland.
