Loyal fan Principal Yoshihara braved the chill for the senior night meet

The Piedmont High School swim team capped off its dual meet season with a spirited performance, as the boys’ varsity team secured a 92-78 victory while the girls’ varsity team narrowly fell, 84-82. Despite mixed results in the pool, the evening was a resounding success as the team came together to honor its seniors.

“Our biggest highlight was having so much of our team there to celebrate our seniors in their last-ever high school dual meet,” said Head Coach Adrien Downey. “They put a lot of work into creating posters and sending them off in style. Despite being at another team’s pool, we made it feel like home for a few minutes under the banners and balloons.”

The Junior Varsity squads continued their strong season with standout performances. Rabia Mahmood impressed once again, showcasing her versatility with an expanding lineup of events. Rylan Patty delivered exceptional relay splits, and Elles Krieckhaus turned heads by winning the 50-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle back-to-back—events he doesn’t typically compete in.

“JV’s performances were solid up and down the lineup,” Downey said. “But more than anything, their attitude and enthusiasm, especially during the relays, really stood out.”

Overall the night was a meaningful one. Family, friends, and teammates filled the deck with cheers, hugs, and gratitude for the seniors who have been the heart of the program for years.

Next up, Piedmont heads to the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) Championships, where the stakes will be even higher. The meet will crown team champions for both girls and boys and offer a pathway to postseason competition, including the North Coast Section (NCS) Championships and the State Championships.

“It’s a true all-hands-on-deck moment for us,” Downey said. “Depth becomes even more important, and it opens opportunities for our entire roster to contribute to the outcome. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”
