Wildlife part of a healthy park ecosystem
Piedmont’s parks don’t just support people — they’re shared spaces where local wildlife find shelter, food, and nesting grounds.

Owls nesting in city parks is a sign of a healthy, thriving ecosystem. Owls play an important role in balancing the local environment, helping manage rodent populations naturally and maintaining ecological harmony.

The owl naming contest invites community members to connect more deeply with the natural world around us. Especially for kids and families, giving the owls a name may encourage curiosity about all the wildlife supported by our urban forest, which is home to raptors, songbirds, pollinators, and more. Forming connections with wildlife at a young age can spark a lifelong interest in conservation and stewardship.
