Piedmont High School’s girls lacrosse team scored a pair of victories including a big win on senior night.
The Highlanders first defeated Acalanes at Witter Field on April 15, 15-4. Peyton Watson and Friedie Schickedanz each scored six goals to lead the way. Chloe Graham had the other three for Piedmont and added an assist. Watson won seven draws and Schickedanz won five. Sophie Santander recorded six saves in goal.
Megan Churchill had two goals to lead the Dons. Catalina Liu had a goal and an assist. Sarah Hession had six saves.
The Highlanders were dominant, taking an 11-0 lead at halftime.
“The girls probably played their cleanest game of the year with few turnovers, patience on offense, great defense – especially Jordon (Kim) and Naftalia (Segal),” Piedmont coach Carlton Chan said. “Sophie had a great game with some critical saves that kept our momentum going.”
On April 17, the Highlanders defeated visiting Rancho Cotate, 18-9. Prior to the game, Piedmont’s seniors were honored: Graham, Santander, Kim, Abigail Call, Alyssa Quibelan, Reni Suhr, Ruby Johnson, Naomi Kottle, Luisa Cole, Annika Hattan-Kutter, Emily Williamson, Olive Litwin and Friedie and Mary Schickedanz.
Watson had six goals and an assist and also won seven draws. Schickedanz also had six goals and an assist. Graham had three goals and two assists, Williamson had a goal and an assist, while Jameson Sanford and Litwin each had a goal. Santander had eight goals.
Delilah Moore had six goals for the Cougars. MiaJane Smith had two and Taylor Gagnon had one. Syerra Weiler had five saves.
“Peyton Watson probably played one of her best games — Friedie set up 50-50 balls for her on the draw circle and Peyton just beat her opponent to the ball time and time winning almost all the balls and gaining possession for Piedmont,” Chan said. “We also set up one-on-ones for her at the top of the 12 and she beat her girl to score most of her goals.”
Rancho Cotate scored the first two goals of the game but the Highlanders wrested control and went up 11-4 at halftime.
