A New Perspective: The buck stops here | Real Estate Insights

Faith, trust and excellent teamwork make it all possible.

The personal stories of one Realtor’s battles and triumphs in the highly-competitive Bay Area Real Estate Market, seeking to illuminate and humanize the very real ups-and-downs of homeownership.

I spent last weekend in bed recovering from surgery. Like many people when faced with the prospect of an invasive procedure, I had put it off for a few years, but I could no longer ignore the problem. Now that the issue is resolved, it’s back to business as usual. (Thanks for your well wishes.)

“Business as usual” is only possible because I had a team of talented medical professionals looking out for my best interests. From the the surgeon, to the anesthesiologist, to the OR nurses (both before and after surgery), to the intake administrator . . . each of them treated me with kindness and kid gloves, reassuring me throughout the process that all would be well (and so it was). Their collective words of encouragement created great trust, and in my experience, whenever faith leads the way, there’s little room for fear.

Faith, trust and partnership

That’s true in my profession as well; faith and trust are tantamount to a positive outcome. Without it – no matter how successful – the result can be met with suspicion and discontent.

Of course, the business of Real Estate doesn’t necessarily take a pause just because I needed a few days off; real estate tends to be 24/7. Luckily, my partner, Sarah, was there to cover me, just as I had filled in for her a few weeks earlier when she she met girlfriends in Mexico for a quick getaway. That’s the beauty of a partnership; there’s always one of us who can step in and fill the role, whatever that may be.

With respect to last weekend, it was meeting a Buyer for a final walk-thru on an off-market sale, conferring with two sets of Sellers for price reductions on their respective units, answering questions as they arose, and covering an Open House. Sarah’s expertise allowed me to take a back seat as I stayed in bed, secure in the knowledge that everything would be handled appropriately and professionally.

Sarah and I joined forces within the first year of migrating to COMPASS. We’d come from different Brokerages but very quickly realized that our work ethic and passion aligned perfectly. Moreover, we understood that we were stronger together than when were competing against one another as solo practitioners. AND we were right; it’s been a match made in heaven.

There are no miracles — only good planning

To date, we’ve done hundreds-of-millions of dollars in transactions and nearly all of our listings have had successful results for which we are incredibly grateful. But success doesn’t come along accidentally; each success has been thoughtfully engineered. With two full-time project managers, and a team of COMPASS pros, we’re able to keep a lot of balls in the air while still giving our personal attention to everything we do. Recognizing where our strengths lie, and being able to delegate the rest means that everyone is working to their highest and best potential, AND that’s the way it should be. Our clients absolutely benefit from the different skill sets that each of us bring to the table.

Surprisingly, the team concept is fairly new to real estate, but makes total sense when you think about the year-round demands and the high stakes involved. Teams allow us to have a life beyond real estate while meeting the increasing demands of Buyers and Sellers. However, there are teams and then there are TEAMS!

Some Agents have grown their partnerships so large that they essentially become mini-brokerages in and of themselves, and while that may make sense for them, Sarah and I have purposefully kept our partnership small. You won’t be signing the listing agreement with us only to be passed along to a Junior Agent you’ve never heard of or met. We’re not just the front men (excuse me, front women) for the transaction, we’re here from the beginning to the end – and you should expect nothing less.

For better or worse, the buck stops here.

How can we help you?
