The Dish | Cookie Brittle

This is a recipe I recently pulled out from my mother’s archives — to great fanfare. One of the easiest sweet tooth pleasers in the world, you can make it from items in your pantry. I recommend cutting or breaking into 1″ pieces.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 C butter, softened
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 C flour
  • 1 C chocolate chips (or more)
  • Flaky sea salt
DIRECTIONS:
  • Preheat oven to 375*.
  • In a large bowl, combine the butter, sugar, vanilla.  In another bowl, combine the flour and salt, gradually blend in the flour and mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Press the dough into a 9×12″ ungreased pan. Bake for 25 minutes, cookies should be slightly golden brown, especially around the edges.
  • Sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on top when you pull it out of the oven. Cool and cut into small squares, or break up, about 1″ each.
