Man also allegedly driving stolen vehicle

A felon was found with a load magazine and ammunition on March 17 after he was detained exiting a stolen vehicle. An automated license plate reader (ALPR) alert came on a blue 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt at 12:45 p.m. near Moraga Avenue and Maxwelton Road, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. Police found the vehicle parking on Moraga about two minutes later according to the police log. Captain Monahan said the officer saw a “jiggle key” in the ignition.

The suspect, identified as Robert Maynard, was detained. Captain Monahan said a search of the suspect revealed the jiggle key (a type of lock pick) and glass pipes.

The VIN confirmed the vehicle had been stolen out of Oakland, according to Captain Monahan. He said a records check showed Maynard was on Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS) for weapons. A search of a backpack turned up a loaded magazine with seven rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.

The suspect was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with being a felon possessing ammunition, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A female passenger was released at the scene.


On March 18, a black Chevrolet Corvette was stolen on Moraga Avenue. The incident was reported at 11:18 a.m. The report said it was taken at approximately 12:56 a.m. that morning. The suspect vehicle was reported to be a white Dodge Charger with no license plates, according to Captain Monahan. He said both vehicles fled east on Moraga. The Corvette was later found unoccupied by Antioch police.


At 2:13 a.m. on March 15, a traffic stop was conducted on a 2022 Ford F-150. The driver was determined to be under the influence and was taken to Santa Rita Jail, according to Captain Monahan.


On March 17, an officer was parked on Grand Avenue and observed a black 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon weaving in the lane on Grand at approximately 1:20 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said the officer followed the vehicle and pulled it over on Brandon Street in Oakland.

The driver failed field sobriety tests, according to Captain Monahan, and was arrested for DUI.


Early in the morning of March 18, a traffic stop was conducted on a grey 2018 Honda Civic. Captain Monahan said the officer observed signs of intoxication in the driver and that preliminary alcohol screening tests reported BAL of 0.179 and 0.161. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail and booked for DUI.


On March 15, an auto burglary was reported on Hillside Avenue. The victim was unloading tools from the trunk of their Subaru. An unknown suspect driving a white Ford F-150 took approximately $300 worth of tools from the trunk, according to Captain Monahan.
