School Board expected to approve new Havens, Wildwood principals at March 12 meeting

The Board of Education is expected to approve the appointment of new principals for Havens and Wildwood Elementary Schools at its regular meeting on Wednesday night.

Susanne Reed, the current principal of Rosa Parks Environmental Science Magnet in Berkeley Unified School District, is being recommended to serve as the next principal for Havens Elementary School. She would replace Principal Anne Dolid who is moving on from her role at that school at the end of this school year.

The district said it received 34 applications for the position and narrowed the list down to five for the first round of interviews.

Amy Fry, the vice principal at Hearst and Mohr Elementary Schools in the Pleasanton Unified School District, is recommended to serve as the next principal of Wildwood Elementary School. She will replace Beth Rhine, who has served as Wildwood’s interim principal after Melissa Daymond resigned unexpectedly last fall.

The district said it received 28 applications for the position and narrowed the list down to five for the first round of interviews.

Cell Phone Task Force to give update for discussion

Also on the March 12 agenda: a presentation by the Cell Phone Task Force, a working group of parents and staff convened at the end of last year to address cell phone usage across the school campuses and develop policy recommendations in compliance with AB 3216, the “Phone-free Schools Act,” which “requires the governing body of a school district, a county office of education, or a charter school to, by July 1, 2026, develop and adopt, and to update every 5 years, a policy to limit or prohibit the use by its pupils of smartphones while the pupils are at a schoolsite or while the pupils are under the supervision and control of an employee or employees of that school district, county office of education, or charter school, as provided.”

PUSD Board of Education meetings are open to the public and held at 7 p.m. in City Hall chambers twice a month unless otherwise noted. You can also watch the proceedings via KCOM Channel 27 and virtually via Zoom. The agenda for the March 12 meeting is HERE
