Piedmont fire chief to speak on wildfire readiness at EBMUD webinar

Chief Brannigan will be the guest speaker next week on EBMUD’s “Water Wednesday” webinar series. This week’s topic is “Wildfire Ready: Building Resilience and Community Safety.”

Here’s the webinar description from EBMUD:

As climate change drives the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires, water utilities are facing unprecedented challenges in maintaining service continuity and safeguarding critical infrastructure. Join EBMUD and fire experts to learn how we are preparing for fire-related risks and explore the essential interagency collaboration needed to ensure the East Bay is ready for wildfire threats.

Speakers include:

  • Dave Brannigan, Fire Chief, City of Piedmont
  • Jamie Albrecht, Emergency Services Coordinator, City of Berkeley Office of Emergency Services
  • Scott Hill, Manager of Watershed, EBMUD
  • Damon Horn, Superintendent of Water Treatment and Distribution, EBMUD
Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan

Chief Brannigan will be speaking about how Fire Departments plan and prepare for wildfires, including an overview of the strategies and tactics firefighters use to combat different types of fires. He’ll also touch on the most important steps homeowners can take to harden their own property against wildfires.

EBMUD staff will be discussing how the agency manages vegetation and fire fuels on their own property, as well as what how they work to prepare their own infrastructure – ensuring water will be available during fires, maintaining reservoirs in fire-prone areas, pipeline integrity, and backup power/pumps.

The webinar is next Wednesday, March 19 at 6pm. Community members can register to attend the webinar at this link.
