PHS sophomore Lucy Allen collected 1,083 books from friends and neighbors for a Girl Scout community service award over the weekend of March 23. Allen organized a book drive to accompany the Girl Scout “Afternoon Tea and Paint” event, where families donated 412 books. Allen then gathered 671 books from friends and neighbors.

Lucy Allen helped shelve books with (l to r) Director of the East Bay Children’s Book Project Ann Katz and former PUSD librarians Randi Voorhies and Ellen Reed

“I’m thankful for all of the community members who donated books and proud to be helping many wonderful Bay Area organizations promote literacy and learning,” said Allen.

The East Bay Children’s Book Project was founded to help build literacy by putting books into the hands of children who have little or no access to them. Books are available free of charge to any professional who works with children in need.
