Highlanders playing tough schedule

Piedmont High School’s boys lacrosse team dropped three matches to fall to 1-4 on the young season. However, the Highlanders are playing some tough teams as they try to rebuild to the program’s historic level.

On March 11, Piedmont fell 12-8 at Casa Grande-Petaluma, coached by former Highlander assistant coach Matt Palasek. Timmy Kalamas and Ian Nguyen each scored three goals for Piedmont. Connor Fredericks had two goals and an assist. Ryan Graham also had two assists. Gus von Metzsch had 13 saves.

Phoenix Smith and Jack Giomi each scored four goals for the Gauchos. Giomi also had an assist.

On March 18, the Highlanders lost at home to Campolindo, 15-8. Fredericks had four goals while Kalamas had three goals and an assist. Nguyen had a goal and an assist. Brendan Devine and Milo Stevenson also had assists. Von Metzsch had 11 saves.

Boden Rasmussen had four goals for the Cougars. Griffin Tetz had two goals and three assists while Gaetan Avicolli had two goals and an assist. Declan Anderson and Luca Vezzali had two goals apiece. Ben Whipple had a goal and an assist.

On March 21, Piedmont lost at Miramonte, 7-5. Nguyen had two goals while Fredericks, Kalamas and P.J. Brayer had one goal apiece. Brayer also had two assists. Fredericks won 15 of 17 faceoffs.

Charlie Hwang had three goals for the Matadors. Derek Youn had two and E.J. Ho and Toby Montalban each had one.

The Highlanders (1-4) will host Berkeley in a West Alameda County Conference match on March 28.
