In a social media post on Tuesday, Piedmont Police reported they had tracked down a suspect vehicle using ALPR technology, arrested a burglary suspect, and recovered stolen property on Feb. 24

On Feb. 24 at approximately 4:30 am, a residential burglary occurred in the 200 block of St. James Drive, resulting in the theft of an oversized toolbox valued at $15,000 and other items. Using ALPR camera technology, Officer Singh identified a suspect vehicle — a white Dodge Ram pickup. Officer Singh and Officer Faucher located the vehicle near 100th Avenue and International Blvd., where they conducted a traffic stop and detained two individuals. The stolen toolbox was found in the bed of the truck and recovered.
A records check revealed the driver had an outstanding warrant for vehicle-related offenses and was out on Alameda County OR [Own Recognizance] release. The passenger was also on OR release for multiple cases.The driver was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for burglary, possession of stolen property, and the outstanding warrant. The passenger was released at the scene. The recovered toolbox was returned to its rightful owner.
A traffic stop on Feb. 22 led to the arrest of two individuals when about 1,700 rounds of ammunition were found in the vehicle. Piedmont Police stopped the white Ford Expedition with no license plates at about 1 p.m. According to a post on the Department’s Facebook page, the driver initially gave a false identification. A VIN check showed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Antioch.
The passenger had a warrant and was on probation in Contra Costa County. The vehicle was searched and the ammunition (which had multiple calibers) was found. A Sig Sauer P226 CO2 handgun was also found, according to the Facebook post.
Both suspects had a previous conviction for a felony and are prohibited from possessing ammunition, according to the Facebook post. Both were taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and booked for felony in possession of ammunition. The driver was also booked for vehicle theft, false identification, and driving on a suspended license. The passenger was also booked for their warrant.
On Feb. 17, police observed a silver Hyundai Elantra with no license plates parked on Santa Clara Avenue at 9:37 a.m. The officer reported a missing door handle on the driver’s side door and that the lock was damaged. An individual was in the driver’s seat, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan.
As the officer approached, the suspect exited the vehicle. The officer reported the steering wheel column appeared to be tampered with, according to Captain Monahan. The individual was detained and was found to be on probation in Alameda County for possession of a stolen vehicle. A VIN check showed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland. The suspect was taken to Santa Rita Jail and booked for possession of the stolen vehicle and violating probation.
On Feb. 16, police saw a 2023 Toyota 4Runner parked on Lakeshore Avenue at 8:31 a.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland. After an individual departed in the vehicle, police pulled it over. The driver was arrested and released.
A white 2020 Kia Sportage was reported stolen from Moraga Avenue on Feb. 16. The reporting person said the crime happened at 4:52 a.m. A suspect vehicle was identified as a black 2010 Hyundai Genesis. The stolen Sportage was found by Oakland police, according to Captain Monahan.
A male driver was arrested for DUI at 2:01 a.m. on Feb. 16 near Grand Avenue. The suspect had been released on his own recognizance in Alameda County for a previous DUI. The suspect was taken to Santa Rita Jail.
