Girls soccer | Piedmont loses heartbreaker at Berkeley

Girls soccer falls 1-0, still battling injuries, illnesses

Piedmont High School’s girls soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Berkeley on Jan. 31.

The Highlanders had a goal by Hannah Sullivan disallowed in the 74th minute. That goal would have tied the score at 1-1.

Sullivan put in a pass across the face of the net from Samantha Ronen. However, the officials conferred and eventually ruled Piedmont was offsides.

The Yellowjackets got their goal early when Mia Sieminski stole a pass in the 10th minute and put the ball in from 20 yards out.

Piedmont had a couple of opportunities in the first half but couldn’t get the ball on net.

The Highlanders were shorthanded again as Louisa Symkowick and Kyla Williams were out with injuries and Chloe Toyama and Kyra Trombi were out with illnesses. Elsa Wallway left the match in the first half due to injury and did not return.

Piedmont is now 5-7-2 on the season, 2-4-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play. The Highlanders match on Feb. 3 against Liberty was canceled due to expected bad weather. Their next scheduled match is Feb. 5 at Castro Valley.
