Celebration after Eliza Hammond scores

Piedmont High School’s girls soccer team finished its regular season with a 3-0 win over visiting Encinal on Feb. 13 at Witter Field.

The Highlanders finished the regular season with a 6-9-2 record, 3-6-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play. Piedmont earned the No. 1 seed in the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs and will host College Prep on Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. at Witter Field.

The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 9 Bentley-No. 8 Pinole Valley on Feb. 22.

The game was played in a steady rain. Piedmont got a first half goal from Hannah Sullivan who put a high shot over the head of the Jets goalkeeper. It remained 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Louisa Symkowick scored on a penalty kick to make it 2-0. She sent the ball low into the left side of the net. Eliza Hammond scored on a rebound later in the half for the 3-0 win.

Piedmont swept Encinal, after winning back on Jan. 29, 2-0.

The Highlanders beat College Prep in the first round of the NCS Division 4 playoffs in 2022.

On Feb. 11, Piedmont lost at Bishop O’Dowd, 4-0. The Dragons got on the board immediately when Chloe Keating took a long pass in the second minute and tapped the ball in. The Highlanders responded with a quick attack off of the restart, when Juliana Thornborrow got a cross in front that Stephanie Lee couldn’t put in.

The Dragons didn’t wait long to go up 2-0. Keating came down the right side and fed Abby Forsgen right in front for another goal in the fourth minute.

In the 42nd minute, Forsgen set up Keating with a pass to the right which the latter put home. Forsgen completed the scoring in the 76th minute off a pass from Katelyn Wong.

Bishop O’Dowd swept through WACC play at 10-0 and finished the regular season 16-0-2 earning the third seed in NCS Division 1.
