Andrea Martin returned to the lineup after an illness and the Piedmont High School girls basketball team defeated host Bishop O’Dowd 50-47 on Feb. 5 to avenge their only prior West Alameda County Conference Foothill division loss.
The Highlanders moved to 18-4 on the season, 5-1 in WACC play. The Dragons fell to 13-7, 5-1.
Martin had been out sick for a couple of weeks. She returned and grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots in addition to scoring five points. Briana Webb led Piedmont with 15 points. Jenelle Solis had 12 points and three assists. Savannah Dennig added eight points and 10 rebounds while Shakila Zuberi had seven points and five rebounds.
Jayla Stokes had 12 points for Bishop O’Dowd. Emilyn Haw had 11 and Simdi Chukwu contributed nine points.
Piedmont built a lead through the first three quarters, entering the final period up 40-33. The Dragons rallied but the Highlanders were able to hold them off. Piedmont held Stokes and Haw scoreless in the fourth. Webb had five of her points in the fourth quarter.
Piedmont is next scheduled to play Alameda at home on Feb. 12.
