A portion of state Highway 24 in Oakland was shut down for more than two hours Tuesday after someone was shot while driving in the eastbound lanes near the Claremont Avenue off-ramp.
California Highway Patrol officers were sent to the area at about noon to investigate a report of a freeway shooting and found a small white sedan with bullet holes but no victim when they arrived, according to CHP spokesperson Officer Adib Zeid.
Officers soon learned that a person in the sedan was shot in the legs and, prior to officers’ arrival, somehow managed to get to a hospital, where they were treated for injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening, Zeid said. All eastbound lanes of the highway were closed until about 2:35 p.m., along with the Interstate Highway 580 connector to Highway 24, while investigators looked for evidence at the scene.
Traffic was diverted from Highway 24 to Claremont Avenue during the investigation.
No additional details about the shooting were released Tuesday.
