Nicolas Markopolous and Bosco Lorin scored goals for Piedmont High School’s boys soccer team as the Highlanders defeated visiting Alameda 2-0 on Feb. 5 at Witter Field.
Piedmont is now 5-7-4 on the season, 4-3-4 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play.
The Hornets started hot, sending a series of shots at Highlanders goalkeeper Lucas Malecki in the seventh minute. Malecki made three saves in a matter of seconds.
In the 18th minute, Gianluca Bini battled a defender, going back-and-forth, finally getting the ball to Markopolous attacking from the left side. The latter sent it home, beating the goakeeper to the left corner for a 1-0 lead.
Late in the half, Piedmont got a second goal when Lorin hit a shot that hit a defender’s hand off of a direct kick in the 38th minute. Lorin then took the penalty kick and beat the keeper to the middle of the net.
Alameda controlled the offense in the second half and had multiple opportunities to get back in the game but couldn’t find the net.
Piedmont was next scheduled to play at Berkeley on Feb. 7. The Highlanders will host Bishop O’Dowd at Witter Field on Feb. 11.
