Highlanders edge San Leandro after falling to Castro Valley

The Piedmont High School boys basketball team split a pair of one-point games. The Highlanders fell at Castro Valley on Jan. 29, 50-49, then defeated San Leandro on the road on Jan. 31, 61-60.

Piedmont is now 12-10 on the season, 2-4 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play.

Ravi Silverberg led the Highlanders in the win over San Leandro with 19 points. Dillon Casey had 17 points  and Lucian Fang Ring added 14.

Xavier Proctor-Montgomery led the Pirates with 25 points while Angel Gomez-Sanchez had 21.

The game was close throughout. The teams were tied at 14-14 after one quarter and San Leandro held a 32-30 lead at halftime. The Pirates still held a 43-42 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Silverberg scored nine of his points in the fourth quarter. Fang Ring hit two 3-pointers in the final period and four in the game.

The game at Castro Valley was also tight all the way. The game was tied 10-10 after one and Piedmont led 27-26 at halftime. The Trojans went up 37-36 after three.

Fang Ring led the Highlanders with 15 points. Silverberg had 11 and Casey added 10. Silverberg again was tough in the fourth quarter, scoring eight of his points. Fang Ring hit five 3-pointers including four in the second quarter.

Ayden Janks led the Trojans with 16 points. Zander Harris and Desmond Sicat scored nine points apiece.

Piedmont is next scheduled to play at Bishop O’Dowd on Feb. 5.
