Piedmont High School’s boys basketball team finished the season on a four-game losing streak. The Highlanders concluded the regular season at 12-14 but still enter the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs with the top seed.
The regular season finale on Feb. 14 was a tight 59-58 loss at home to Castro Valley. Ravi Silverberg led Piedmont with 15 points. Dillon Casey had 13 points while Beach Lorin had 11 and P.J. Brayer had 10.
Zander Harris had a huge game for the Trojans, scoring 26 points. Javon Johnson added nine.
The game was tight all the way with Castro Valley leading 15-14 after one quarter, the Highlanders leading 29-28 at halftime and the Trojans holding a 43-42 lead entering the fourth quarter. Johnson scored seven of his points in the fourth quarter to help lead Castro Valley.
On Feb. 12, Piedmont lost at Alameda, 66-57. With Casey out with a sprained ankle, Silverberg went off, scoring 25 points to lead the Highlanders. Lucian Fang Ring had nine while Lorin and Brayer each scored eight. Kaden Thomas led the Hornets with 16 points. Sage Kopelman and Zion Moore each scored 15.
Alameda jumped out to an early lead with a 20-9 first quarter. Piedmont rallied back in the second, making the score 27-26 Hornets at halftime. Alameda led 49-42 after three.
On Feb. 7, Piedmont lost at home to Berkeley, 76-67. On Feb. 5, the Highlanders fell at Bishop O’Dowd, 72-63.
Piedmont finished 2-8 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play. The Highlanders host Ukiah (8-20) in the first round of the NCS Division 4 playoffs on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The winner faces the winner of the No. 9 Jesse Bethel-No. 8 Hayward game on Feb. 22.
