The Blotter | Gun found in stolen vehicle

Two stolen vehicles were found parked on Dec. 30 on Oakland Avenue and one had a gun on the driver’s seat. The cars were observed by Piedmont police at 6:50 a.m. A 2021 Acura TLX and a 2018 Acura ILX were in a parking lot. The TLX was reported stolen out of San Jose and the ILX was reported stolen out of Alameda, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan.

Police found a Hec Heckler & Koch USP40V1 40-caliber handgun in the TLX. The gun had a 28-round capacity, which is a violation of the penal code, according to Captain Monahan. A wallet was also found. Captain Monahan said the owner of the wallet said he was a victim of a burglary in San Jose and the wallet was taken. Captain Monahan said follow up is in process.


On Dec. 31, an occupied black Honda Accord was found on Lakeshore Avenue with a stolen license plate at 5:08 a.m. The plate was stolen out of San Francisco, according to Captain Monahan. The vehicle was found to be reported stolen out of Richmond. The female driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.


On Dec. 31, a vehicle window of a 2023 Volkswagen Taos was smashed while parked at the Ace Hardware on Grand Avenue. It happened at 5:01 p.m. A backpack with clothing worth approximately $100 was taken according to Captain Monahan. The damage to the window was $500. The suspect was described as an adult male wearing black clothing and his vehicle was a gray 2017 Jeep Cherokee, according to Captain Monahan.


At 9:55 a.m. on Dec. 31, a white 2003 GMC Yukon was found parked on Pleasant Valley Road. It was found to have been stolen out of San Francisco. The vehicle was towed.


A Piedmont “Flock” camera was vandalized on Dec. 30. Police noticed the camera was turned the wrong way near Estates Drive and Park Boulevard around 11:15 a.m. Upon investigation, they determined an unknown suspect had damaged the camera and the pole it was mounted on.


On Dec. 28, a white Kia Forte was found on Santa Clara Avenue with a damaged door lock. Police also said the ignition was damaged, according to Captain Monahan. The registered owner was contacted and said it had been stolen from Alameda and asked that the vehicle be towed so she could report it stolen.


A 2013 Nissan Rogue was stolen from Hillside Avenue sometime on the night of Dec. 28 or the early morning of December 29. The vehicle was located on a different part of Hillside with a damaged lock and items taken.


On December 27, a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was burglarized on Dracena Avenue between 10 a.m.-12 noon. Approximately $1,500 worth of tools were taken.


A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado was found on Fairmont Avenue on Dec. 27 at 2:10 p.m. The vehicle had no license plates. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland.
