Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame announces new inductees and two teams

The Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce the six new inductees and two teams for the class of 2025.

The members are Courtney Gault Azad 1999 (basketball, softball, and tennis); Jim “Truck” Cullom (posthumous) 1942 (football); Robby Inch 2010 (lacrosse and football); Catey McCreary 1983 (basketball and softball); Casey Morris 2008 (basketball); Lauren Remer 2013 (soccer and track).

The PSHOF has also added a new official “Team” category and will enshrine the 1976 NCS 2A Champion Football Team and the 2003-2005 Back-To-Back State Champion Girls Basketball Teams.

The enshrinement ceremony will be held at Piedmont High School’s Alan Harvey Theater on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Courtney Gault Azad
Class of 1999 – Basketball, softball, and tennis
Courtney enjoyed a prolific athletic career at Piedmont as a three-sport athlete, who earned nine varsity letters, All-League (6x), Athlete of the Year and Best Female Athlete honors. She averaged a double-double in basketball and threw four no-hitters in softball to go along with maintaining a scholar athlete status her entire PHS athletic career.

Jim “Truck” Cullom
Class of 1942 – Football (posthumous)
“Truck” was a two-year starter on Piedmont’s greatest football teams of 1940 and 1941, before graduating early with six other Piedmont High students to join the Marine Corps during WWII. After the War, he returned to Cal and started for three years under coach Pappy Waldorf, playing in the Rose Bowls of ’49 & ‘50. He rejoined the Marines and was wounded in the Korean War before settling back at Cal as a coach for the football and rugby teams, a career that eventually earned him a spot in Cal’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Robby Inch
Class of 2010 – Football and lacrosse
Robby Inch was an exciting two-sport athlete, who dazzled fans on the football field and set the career scoring record from 2008-2010 for the lacrosse program. Robby earned five varsity letters, lead the football team in touchdowns his junior and senior seasons, was a two-year varsity LAX captain, earned BSAL All-League MVP, and was selected to the USA High School Lacrosse All- American team.

Catey McCreary
Class of 1983 – Basketball and softball
Catey was a barrier breaking pioneer of women’s sports at Piedmont High School, earning seven varsity letters during her athletic career. Catey was a relentless competitor, and helped normalize the idea of female multi-sport athletes in the community. She played three years of varsity basketball and four years of varsity softball with multiple All-League honors and only struck out four times in her career.

Casey Morris
Class of 2008 – Basketball
Casey is one of the most accomplished players in Piedmont Girls Basketball history and a key member of Piedmont’s second State Championship team in 2005. She finished her career with an incredible 1,982 points helping lead her teams to four straight NCS titles. She was named All State CIF, Bay Area Player of the Year, BSAL Player of the Year, All Bay Area 1st Team, and received an invite to the 2007 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival. In college she played for Cal & Texas Tech, played in three NCAA Tournaments and finished an outstanding Texas Tech career with over 1,000 points.

Lauren Remer
Class of 2013 – Soccer and track
During her athletic career at PHS, Lauren was an accomplished two-sport athlete, who earned eight Varsity letters, set records in track and field and captained her soccer team during their run to 2013 NCS DII Championship Game. In track Lauren won multiple league titles, set PHS records in the 200m and 400m and competed in the CIF State Championships in both of those events. She received multiple All-League honors in track and soccer and was recruited by Stanford’s track & field program.

1976 Football Team
North Coast Section 2A Champions

The legendary 1976 Football team not only accomplished the rare feat of of an undefeated 11-0 season, they were the first and only PHS team to win a coveted North Coast Section Football Championship. This team of tough and gritty players, led by the charismatic Coach McNair, outscored their opponents 106-27 and claimed nine ACAL All-League spots. The Boys of ’76 cemented the NCS Championship with a 20-8 victory over Salesian High and ended up ranked third in the final East Bay Football poll, and ranked in the Top 10 of teams in the entire Bay Area.

2003-2005 Girls Basketball Team Back-to-Back CIF State Champions

The 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 Piedmont Girls basketball teams are the winningest sports teams in the history of Piedmont High School. From 2003-2005, the Girls Basketball teams won back-to-back BSAL titles, North Coast Sectional Championships, Regional Championships and State Championship Titles. The 2004 team was named the #1 High School Girls Basketball team in the country by USA Today and both teams finished in the top 10 nationally both years (#7 in 2004 and #4 in 2005).

About the PSHOF
The Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame (PSHOF) was established in 2003 by a group of citizens with a keen interest in the rich athletic history of Piedmont High School. The Hall of Fame was founded upon the principle that Piedmont High School athletes, coaches, administrators, boosters and community members who have made outstanding contributions to PHS athletics should be honored and enshrined.
