Updated on Feb. 3 to include a link to the Maker Faire. Updated on Jan. 30 to correct the locations of the two evening events.
Bestselling author and PBS host Kelly Corrigan will return to Piedmont with her daughter, Claire Corrigan Lichty (PHS’21), to promote their new children’s book, “Marianne the Maker,” on March 11.
The Havens, Wildwood, and Beach Elementary School librarians are hosting assemblies for Kindergarteners through third graders that day. “We always love having the chance to introduce the students to authors. As Claire is a K-12 alum of our schools, some kids may be able to envision becoming an author themselves. Further, this book in particular is a wonderful way for us to launch conversations with some of our youngest students about the May 18 Piedmont Makers Faire,” said PUSD librarian Tiffany Cothran. You can submit a project for the Piedmont School Maker Faire HERE.
Later that day, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Corrigan and Lichty will be the honored guests at a public reception in the Piedmont Community Hall hosted by PEF´s Community Engagement Committee. Tickets for the reception can be purchased at the Piedmont Store HERE for $50 and include nibbles and wine.
At 7:30 p.m., the pair will be at the Alan Harvey Theater at Piedmont High School to talk with parents about their new book, including some of the science and rationale for prioritizing creativity and free time in childhood.
Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. Parent Education event are $25 and include a copy of the book (which will be available after it is printed in June). This event is also open to all adults. Tickets and links to extra copies of the book are available on the Piedmont Store HERE.
¨I am so excited Kelly and Claire are coming to Piedmont,” said former PUSD School Board member Sarah Pearson, a long-time friend of Corrigan’s. “I’ve loved all of Kelly’s books, and I love listening to her podcasts. She always asks relevant and thoughtful questions. As O Magazine said, Kelly Corrigan is ‘the voice of our generation.’ And her daughter, Claire, is absolutely delightful! I’m excited to hear them talk about their collaboration on their new book.”
The Montclair bookstore A Great Good Place for Books will be on site at both evening events to sell some of Corrigan´s bestselling books, and Corrigan is happy to sign books at that time.
Corrigan has written four New York Times bestselling memoirs, hosted “Tell Me More with Kelly Corrigan” on PBS for seven years, and continues to release her nationally popular podcast – “Kelly Corrigan Wonders”. Through this work, Corrigan has conducted hundreds of intimate conversations with national and international figures about wellbeing, purpose, and impact. Her insightful questions, insights and responses have resonated with millions of Americans.
Corrigan and her husband now divide their time between New York City and Bozeman, Montana.
