Girls soccer | Piedmont beats Castro Valley, 5-2

Elsa Wallway and Kyla Williams scored two goals apiece to help lead Piedmont High School’s girls soccer team to 5-2 win over Castro Valley on Jan. 14 at Witter Field.

The Highlanders are now 4-3-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill League play. Wallway got Piedmont on the board almost immediately, scoring in the third minute on a strong shot into the lower right corner of the net.

In the 13th minute, Wallway struck again, this time off of an assist by Juliana Thornborrow, who sent the ball in front for Wallway to finish. That made it 2-0.

In the 33rd minute, Wallway made a nice pass to Ryo Woltag on the left side who put the ball home for a 3-0 lead. That was the score at halftime.

The Trojans got on the board in the 53rd minute when Zoie Li connected on a shot from about 30 yards out on the left side.

In the 72nd minute, Thornborrow and Woltag got off good shots and Williams then scored from in front on the rebound to make it 4-1.

Seconds later, the Trojans answered with a 30-yard shot from straightaway from Ea Trafton-Hancock.

Finally, in the 78th minute, Williams closed the scoring on a rebound of a shot by Woltag.

Piedmont is next scheduled to play at Alameda on Jan. 17.
