Girls basketball cruises to another win

Piedmont routs Castro Valley, 73-28.

Piedmont High School’s girls basketball team raced to another victory, defeating host Castro Valley 73-28 on January 29.

The Highlanders are now 15-4, 3-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play.

Andrea Martin was again out with an illness. Jenelle Solis had 21 points, six assists and three rebounds. Briana Webb had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Taylor White scored nine points and grabbed 16 rebounds to go along with eight assists and two steals. Savannah Dennig had eight points and 10 rebounds while Cleo Afsar also scored eight. Shakila Zuberi and Saniyah Johnson each scored seven.

Naomi Chew had 12 points for the Trojans.

Piedmont raced to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and was up 35-15 at halftime.

The Highlanders are next scheduled to play at San Leandro on January 31.
