The Blotter | Driver arrested for DUI after hitting median

A driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence on Dec. 16 after the vehicle hit the median on Grand Avenue near Rose Avenue. A call for service was received by the Piedmont Police Department at 10:59 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the grey Subaru Legacy “disabled” with damage to both passenger side tires, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. He said the driver was attempting to drive away but was unable to. Officers said she had watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. The driver took a field sobriety test and showed indications of being under the influence according to Captain Monahan and refused to take a
preliminary alcohol screening test. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and submitted to a blood draw and was charged with DUI.

Early on the morning of Dec. 20, Piedmont Police found a silver Honda Civic on Piedmont Avenue near Monte Vista Avenue. The vehicle was on and in reverse, according to Captain Monahan. He said a driver was hunched over the wheel and that vomit was found in the vehicle.

The officer turned off the vehicle and put it in park and then contacted the driver. According to Captain Monahan, the driver had slurred speech, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol. Captain Monahan said the driver failed the field sobriety tests and refused to take a chemical test. He was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail and a blood draw warrant was obtained.

On Dec. 20, a stolen vehicle from a driveway on Annerly Road was reported. Between 4:00 and 4:10 a.m., an unidentified suspect took a gray 2021 Honda CRV. Captain Monahan said a review of Flock Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras did not capture the vehicle leaving the area. No witnesses have been found. Captain Monahan said the victim “did not want to cooperate with a criminal prosecution of suspects.”

On Dec. 19, Piedmont Police found a white Toyota Camry with no license plates parked on Oakland Avenue at 7:02 p.m. A woman in the passenger seat refused contact with a police officer. A check of the VIN showed it had expired registration, according to Captain Monahan. The vehicle was towed.
