SF’s first flu death of season prompts health officials to urge residents to get vaccinated

San Francisco’s public health officials are urging people to get their flu shot this year on the heels of the city’s first reported influenza death of the season.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health released a statement Friday saying a person over the age of 65 recently died from the flu. No additional details were provided.

People should get vaccinated against flu, COVID-19 and RSV, get tested and stay home if they feel sick, consider wearing a high-quality mask inside, wash their hands regularly and improve ventilation indoors by turning on HVAC systems and filtering the air with a portable HEPA filter, according to health officials.

People can look up where to get vaccines at www.vaccines.gov.
