Volunteers from Piedmont Garden Club gathered in Piedmont Community Hall on Tuesday morning to unravel strings of lights and check for any faulty bulbs before working with the city’s public crew to hang the lights on the community plaza’s coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens).
The 80-foot tree was bedecked with holiday lights in preparation for the Dec. 4 “Lights Up, Piedmont!” tradition, hosted by the Piedmont Beautification Foundation.
This year’s event has a new start time at 6 p.m to better accommodate young attendees. Festivities take place in front of Piedmont Community Hall and will feature the illumination of the redwood tree and a cappella serenades by Piedmont High School’s Troubadours, the lighting of a menorah concurrently with the tree, and inclusive, seasonal activities for all ages coordinated by the Piedmont Recreation Department. The Piedmont Beautification Foundation is a nonprofit founded by the Piedmont Garden Club in 1964 to raise funds to help the city sustain Piedmont’s parks and green spaces.
Thanks to the generosity of Piedmont citizens, Piedmont Beautification Foundation (501c3) is able to partner with the City of Piedmont to beautify, maintain and renovate the greenscape and public buildings. Donations to the seasonal “Holiday Tree Lighting Fund” give donors an opportunity to send Holiday Greetings through PBF to friends and family.
