Young and old gathered at Piedmont Community Hall on Wednesday night for the city’s annual tree- and menorah-lighting ceremony. The tree-lighting practice dates back to 1969 and was expanded in recent years to include a large-scale menorah and other winter traditions that celebrate the diversity in the community.
Piedmont Boy Scouts served hot cider donated by Piedmont Grocery and hot cocoa courtesy of Heafey-Baum Group. Recreation Department staff served hot latkes donated by Chabad Jewish Center.
Attendees made light-themed crafts and played games in the courtyard, overseen by Piedmont Girl Scouts and the Piedmont Recreation Department. Inside the Community Hall, children wrote letters to Santa and posed for photos.
Lights Up! made possible through partnership with Piedmont Beautification Foundation
The Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF) obtains, maintains, installs, and removes the colorful LED lights that adorn the illuminated tree each year. Throughout the year, PBF partners with the City to provide research and funding for projects that increase safety, beauty, and function of Piedmont’s extensive and unique public facilities.
Community members can support these efforts by donating HERE or by mailing a check to:

A donation to PBF this time of year provides an opportunity to extend warm wishes to friends and neighbors as part of the group’s Annual Holiday Greeting Campaign by way of names of donors being listed in the Post and the Exedra.
