It was a full house at Community Hall on Monday night, as the city held a reception for the newly elected members of the City Council and Board of Education and said farewell to its departing mayor.

Before the reception, the the City Council certified the Nov. 5 election results and Piedmont’s new councilmembers and Board of Education members were sworn in, formally assuming their new offices. The City Council then elected Betsy Smegal Andersen as mayor and Conna McCarthy as vice mayor.

Lorrel Plimier is the newest member of the Council; Conna McCarthy was sworn in for a second term. The three new School Board members — Michael Malione, Max Roman, and Susy Struble — are all new.

The city showed a tribute video as a farewell to former Mayor Jen Cavenaugh with words of appreciation from friends and colleagues.
