Letter to the Editor | On a somber day, Turkey Trot volunteers delivered

Piedmont Exedra

2024 Turkey Trotters

After fourteen years into my tenure working on the Piedmont Turkey Trot, yesterday’s event was the most imperfect of races. There were very few dry eyes on Wednesday morning and brain fog for many of us abounded as we learned of the tragic traffic accident that devastated our community.

There aren’t enough ways to say, “Thank You” to every single person who helped make the 23rd Annual Piedmont Turkey Trot happen. We had hearts in abundance.

The first inaugural Tiny Tot Trot still happened, led by PHS alumni and current students. Both J.Miller Flowers and The Oakland Flower Market arranged for and delivered 2,500 flowers for our mid-route memorial.

Piedmonters showed up to support the race, to help unload gear in the dark, to hand flowers out to those who wanted time at the memorial, to share in a moment of silence.

For some people the Trot became a place to lend and receive support. To get outside and breathe, to do something, to do anything. Hugs were shared, family and friends gathered. Our imperfect race seemed to be the event our town needed.

On behalf of Chris, Lesley, Kevin, Debra and the 2024 Turkey Trot Board — thank you to all.

Prizes will be mailed. Results can be found HERE. Questions? Email sydneyproctor66@gmail.com
