The Oakland Public Library announced it will reopen its main library on Dec. 2.

Located at 125 14th St., the branch has been closed since May 27 “for critical infrastructure upgrades to improve the library facilities and enhance the overall patron experience and workspaces for staff,” the library said in a statement.

The library got a new roof; an electrical system modernization; a new boiler control system; heating and cooling improvements; and enhanced lighting, flooring, and ceiling upgrades throughout the building.

Minimally invasive work will be ongoing until 2025, including skylight repairs, which the library said shouldn’t affect services and operating hours.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the community back to the main branch after these essential upgrades,” Oakland library director Jamie Turbak said in the statement. “The improvements will create a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for all our visitors and staff.”

The library said it will host a celebration at a yet-to-be-announced time that will feature tours of the newly renovated spaces, special programs, and family-friendly activities. All are welcome to attend.
