Undercover officers helped arrest 17 people for organized retail shoplifting in the Ingleside District of southeast San Francisco, police said.
The operation, conducted between Aug. 23 and Sept. 24, concentrated on merchants in the 3300 and 4900 blocks of Mission Street, “chosen for operations due to the high number of shoplifting incidents,” police said in a press release.
Thirteen adults and four juveniles were cited for organized retail crime and petty theft. The effort was funded in part by a $15.3 million state grant aimed at retail theft prevention, police said.
“Officers are conducting similar ORC operations throughout the city and making a number of arrests in other retail business locations,” police said.
Businesses that would like to participate can contact sfpd.retailtheft@sfgov.org.
The cases remain open and active investigations. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
