On Nov. 2, Piedmont Council’s five Scouts BSA Troops will gather to collect donations from the Piedmont community for the Council’s 40th Annual Scouting for Food drive. All food and dollars collected go to Alameda County Community Food Bank to support our neighbors in need of assistance.
“Alameda County has one of the highest incidences of hunger in the nation,” said Anne Hauss Davies, the Council’s Scouting for Food Chair. “One of every five residents of the County call upon the Alameda Food Bank for assistance, and two-thirds of those requiring assistance are children and the elderly. More than half of those served by the Food Bank have jobs but aren’t earning enough to make ends meet.”
This service project, done by Scouts across the nation for decades, incorporates Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturers.
Donations of food, such as canned foods, peanut butter, cereal, snack bars, pop tarts, pancake or muffin mixes, crackers, cookies, instant soup, rice, beans, dry pasta, powdered milk or juice are suggested. Donations of cash and checks are also welcome.
Please place your generous donations in a bag or box on the street by 9 a.m.
