A Reception at Piedmont High School on November 14 | 5:30-6:45pm
Piedmont’s highly regarded public schools are a key draw for many residents. In fact, even people without children in the district are attracted to the area because they align with a community that values education. Rich and Barbara Thompson were empty nesters drawn to Piedmont in part for its reputation for excellence in its public schools and all that means. They also realized that civic engagement is not only personally rewarding but critical to the success of the community. With this mindset, Rich joined the Piedmont Education Foundation Board in 2020 and this year is chairing PEF’s Community Engagement Committee with a host committee including Molly Lloyd, Sarah Pearson and Rick Raushenbush. When reached for a comment, Rich noted “I want to make sure that other members of the community, who don’t currently have students in the district, have a chance to learn more about our schools firsthand.”
The first of several events planned for this year will be Thursday, November 14 from 5:30-6:45 p.m., when all community members are invited to come to the Piedmont High School Student Center to enjoy mocktails, light bites, and conversation. The PUSD Superintendent, Dr. Jennifer Hawn, will provide an update on the district, and community members will have a chance to enjoy our beautiful school facilities and mingle with some current school leaders.
Katherine Campbell was delighted to learn about the reception and stated “We are excited to reconnect with fellow empty nesters at the reception. We had three children graduate from PHS and were so thankful for all of our years of active involvement in the Piedmont Schools. Whether we were watching our children on stage, the football field or in the pool playing water polo, we are so grateful for all of the great experiences Piedmont Public Schools provided for our children.”

Following the reception, all are welcome to join us to watch the PHS fall play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the new Alan Harvey Theater. Tickets for the play can be purchased in advance HERE and may be available at the door. The play is also being performed on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16.
