If you are an incoming or prospective TK – 5th grade family, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to tour one of the district’s three elementary schools starting Oct. 8. A tour is a great way to see teaching and learning in action, meet the site principals, students, and current parents.
For the 2025-2026 school year, all 4 year-olds will be eligible for TK. TK is considered the first year of a two-year kindergarten program, but it has a lower adult-child ratio than kindergarten. It’s designed to meet the specific needs of four and five-year-old children. It uses developmentally and age-appropriate practices. TK does not replicate preschool or kindergarten. It addresses the child’s language, literacy, and pre-math skills with an emphasis on social and emotional development and learning through inquiry and play. The program blends preschool and readiness standards for kindergarten with a focus on hands-on and experiential learning.
While TK is a shorter day than Kindergarten, before and after school care dedicated to just TK students is available at each school site through Piedmont Rec’s MiniMates Program. Learn more about the district’s TK program HERE.
Beach, Wildwood, and Havens schools are kicking off tours starting Tuesday, Oct. 8. There will be four tours at each of the schools, once a month through January 2025. You can sign up for a time slot HERE.
Prospective Family Information Night is on Oct. 17 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on the Havens campus in the Ellen Driscoll Auditorium. At the Info Night, you’ll hear from the principals and current families, some of which have transferred in from local private schools.
