Piedmont High School’s girls water polo team ran into a couple of buzzsaws and came away with two West Alameda County Conference losses.
On Oct. 15, the Highlanders traveled to Berkeley and fell, 11-3. Abigail Jacoby had two of the Piedmont goals and Esme Krumins tallied the other.
The Yellowjackets led 6-2 at halftime, then ran away with the game. Morgan Ostrer scored five goals for Berkeley. Zoe Glass had three and Eden Barnes added two. Lucy Graham had the other.
Chloe Graham had six saves for the Highlanders. Sonja ten Grotenhuis had seven steals and Sydney Olsen had four to go along with two assists.
On Oct. 17, Alameda defeated Piedmont 19-2 at Encinal. Zoe Waitkus and Vivian Burke had the goals for the Highlanders. The Hornets scored the first 12 goals of the match before Burke scored her goal in the third quarter.
Maddie Fong scored seven goals to lead Alameda. Kylie Zorn added six while Kala Lau-Seim, Molly Edison and Olivia Schnoebelen added two apiece.
